The school year is here!
As you are busy getting ready every day, you know grabbing a healthy snack for your child is an important part of their school day.
My husband and I always talk to our kids about eating healthy foods to give us our ‘brain power’ for the day. And it’s great to have a couple of healthy snacks on hand (also ones that are peanut/tree nut-free for those allergy-free classrooms).
Here are some of my kids’ favorite snacks:
Favorite Healthy Snacks for School
- Made Good Granola Minis are mini granola bites that are made free of the top eight allergens. At our local Costco, you can get the chocolate chip and mixed berry flavors.
- Skinny Pop is popcorn that is dairy-free/peanut and tree nut-free. It is maybe one of the ‘messier’ snacks on this list, but it a great option! Flavors include sea salt and white cheddar.
- Nature’s Bakery Fig Bars are another healthy and filling snack for your hungry kid. There are two fig bars in a package and they come in four different flavors: blueberry, raspberry, original fig, and apple cinnamon. My kids are a big fan of the blueberry and original fig.
- Applesauce/Fruit & Veggie Pouches are a good way to make sure your child is still getting all those fruit and vegetable servings, even at snack time. They are quick and usually mess-free.
- Teddy Grahams or Goldfish come in convenient little snack size bags that are perfect for school snack time. These snacks come in a few different flavors. They are both an easy snack to pack with and is always a crowd favorite at our house.
Other Options
Another great choice is to send a Ziploc baggie with fruit or vegetables. The only downside is you might have to pack with a freezer pack (depending upon when their snack time is).
Pretzels, Cheez-Its, or fruit strips are other options to send with your kiddo.
If your kids are anything like mine, they usually tell me, “Everyone is bringing _____ for snack. Can you get some next time you are at the store?”
It’s always fun to see the different snacks they like to have from year to year as they grow. But I always make sure to have healthy snacks available to help set them up for success in their school day!
