From DVDs and a tablet for a road trip, or board games and a story kit for home, there are numerous options. And all you need is a Fargo Public Library card in good standing to check out what’s listed below!

Unique Items at the Fargo Public Library

Adventure Packs for Kids

Five different backpacks are available for check out, filled with just about everything you need for a hiking, camping, birding, or sleepover adventure. Books, DVDs, games, binoculars, bug catchers, and flashlights are just some of the fun supplies found inside these adventure packs.

Board Games

Listed under the Library of Things, this collection of games includes a wide variety, both modern and popular classics, for all ages and interest levels. Games can be borrowed for 3 weeks with up to 2 renewals (provided there are no holds on the game).

Curiosity Kits

Curiosity Kits feature STEM themes and are intended for children in preschool to 6th grade. Preschool children can engineer their own happy ending to favorite fairy tales and school-age kids can learn firsthand about hydraulics, gravity, chain reactions and more!

Launchpads

Each one of these tablets comes preloaded with ad-free learning apps grouped by subject area, theme, and age level. The library has tablets geared to kids ages 3-5, 5-7, and 8-10 years old. An important feature of these devices is that they do not require an internet connection to operate.

North Dakota State Park Pass

The North Dakota State Library and the North Dakota Parks and Recreation Department provide the passes. And each pass can be checked out for one week and provides daily vehicle access to any North Dakota State Park. Please note additional charges, such as camping, are the responsibility of the pass holder.

Sunspotter Kits

The Sunspotter is a Keplerian telescope that projects an image of the sun through a series of mirrors onto a white surface. This provides observers with a safe way to view sunspots, solar eclipses, and other solar activity. Also included in the kit is a copy of Solar Science: Exploring Sunspots, Seasons, Eclipses, and More to provide a great starting point for instruction on the sun.

Music, Movies & Video Games

The library has a large collection of Blu-Ray or DVD movies, music CDs, and video games. Movies can be borrowed for 1 week while CDs and video games can be checked out for 3 weeks. Also, the library offers streaming movies for adults and kids on both Kanopy and Hoopla.

Story on the Go Kits

Story on the Go Kits combine reading and learning with play and fun! Packaged in handles totes, each kit contains books on a specific subject along with a collection of fun related items such as puppets, flashcards, toys and more!

Topic Totes for Tots

For younger kids, these handled containers are easy to “grab and go.” Each tote contains 10 titles on a single subject. In addition there is a laminated sheet of related rhymes, songs, finger plays, and crafts.

So Many Unique Items

Overall, the Fargo Public Library has a number of interesting items beyond just books. Check out what they have to offer!

Katina Behm
Katina grew up in the suburbs of Philadelphia and played field hockey at the University of Connecticut, and has never been in as good of shape since. She met her husband, Justin, at a bar in Pittsburgh and, despite many romantic Skype dates, found a long-distance relationship to be a drag and moved to Fargo in 2010. She's a bonus mom to Justin's son, Owen (2005), and they have twins Augie and Delphi (2016) and two Great Danes, Rainy and Moose. She's a Speech-Language Pathologist & Certified Brain Injury Specialist who enjoys helping her patients improve their quality of life. She is also a Certified Sculpt Instructor at Mojo Fit Studios. Katina loves showing the world to her kids (but also seeing the world through their eyes), trying new foods, listening to live music and publicly mocking her little brother on Instagram. On most weekends, you can find her at one of her kids' many activities by day, and by night on the couch in sweats, eating a homemade charcuterie board and drinking cheap wine she bought at Costco. She still has Skype dates, but now they're with friends and family who live all over the place.
