The Fargo-Moorhead area has so many amazing places for families. Sometimes it’s hard to know if it’s worth it to purchase a family membership versus a one-time pass.
Here’s a roundup of my family’s favorite places, where I think it’s a great value to purchase a membership!
Family Memberships in Fargo & Moorhead
Family Wellness
Family Wellness, a large wellness facility, has something for everyone. A family membership is $103.00 per month, or $136.00 per month with childcare included. Another option is to pay per visit for childcare.
The gym facilities at Family Wellness include weight equipment, a walking track, and cardio machines. There are jogging strollers you can use if you want to get in a walk with your little one. Also, fitness classes are included in the cost of membership.
Family Wellness has a great childcare area. You can join the waitlist online, or drop-in care is available. The childcare area accepts children from two weeks old to nine years old, and a parent or guardian must stay in the building for the entire time. Family Wellness has indoor and outdoor play areas (weather-permitting).
This is something I wish I would have taken advantage of when my kids were younger. New mamas, I highly encourage you to check this out, if only to use the locker room to take a shower in peace!
Our favorite amenity at Family Wellness is the pools. There is a large pool which is typically used for swimming lessons or lap swimming, and a zero-depth entry pool that is perfect for young children. My kids love going to the pool and it’s the ideal place for them to burn off some energy during those long winter days.
Looking for a similar option? Try the Fercho YMCA downtown! They have a swimming pool, on-site childcare, tons of youth programs and activities, and a new kid’s play space!
Red River Zoo
This is one membership that we renew every single year.
A family membership is $90.00 annually. This gives you not only free admission to the zoo, but early admission as well! The zoo typically opens at 10:00 a.m., but members can get in at 9:00 a.m. This gives the kids some extra time (and room) to run around, check out the animals, and feed the llamas before it gets too crowded.
A Red River Zoo membership also gives you free entry to special events, like Boo at the Zoo (a favorite in our family) and Holiday Nights.
My kids love the zoo, and with a membership, the pressure is off to make sure the trip is “worth it.” Do you have an hour to kill between activities or before nap time? Head to the zoo! The zoo is also a great place to bring a stroller and walk with a baby when the weather is nice.
One of the best perks we have discovered with our Red River Zoo membership is the reciprocity program. This is a partnership that the Red River Zoo has with over 150 other zoos and aquariums. Recently we have used our membership at the Red River Zoo to get a discounted rate at the Phoenix Zoo and also the Minnesota Zoo.
Want another option for ongoing learning? Try Kidco Children’s Museum in downtown Moorhead. They have so many options for pretend play, exploring, and using their imagination.
Rustad Indoor Playground
The Rustad Recreation Center, located in West Fargo, has a large indoor playground area. Admission is $5.00 per child (children under the age of one are free), or $40 for a punch card for 10 visits. During the winter months it’s a no-brainer to get the punch card. You will definitely get your money’s worth!
There’s playground equipment for both older and younger children. And the floor is slightly cushioned to make it a bit safer for adventurous little ones.
Socks must be worn at all times, and no food or drink is allowed other than water. You don’t need to call ahead of time or reserve a spot, and there is no time limit. There is also a walking track above the indoor playground, so if you’re there with another adult, you can switch off walking a few laps and watching the kids!
Another great active play spot is We Rock the Spectrum. There are so many play options for all ages, from babies to older kids. It’s a great spot to beat the heat or the cold all year long!
