As a mom, self-care can feel like such a buzzword. It’s something we all know we need to do, but struggle to find things that truly rejuvenate us. But there’s a little secret I want to share with you:
Thermal-cycling is the best self-care act!
I have been going to a thermal-cycling Nordik spa in Winnipeg once per year, but thanks to Endure Thermal Spa opening in Fargo, I can get my self-care fix just blocks away from my house.
What is Thermal Cycling
Also known as Contrast Therapy, Thermal Cycling is the process of alternating between heat (via sauna) and cold exposure (via a cold tub). At Endure, they use full-spectrum infrared sauna to heat the body directly, and then a cold tub set to about 54 degrees Fahrenheit to immerse your body in for a short period of time.
The heating of the body helps draw out toxins, while the cold water triggers a healthy stress response to boost your immune system, among other benefits.
How Does it Work?
When you arrive at Endure, you’ll be greeted warmly, offered water of tea, and guided to your private room with an infrared sauna and cold tub. Each room is meant for 1-2 people, which makes it great for alone time or a date night!
They suggest sitting in the sauna for 15-20 minutes, then immersing in the cold tub for 1-3 minutes. After a quick rest period, you can repeat this cycle again. There is a clock on the wall to help keep track of your time, and bluetooth available to connect your phone for music.
What are the Benefits of Thermal Cycling?
Now to the best part – why I love thermal cycling and how it makes you feel! There are numerous benefits to both using a Sauna and cold plunge alone, and even more benefits when you use them together as part of contrast therapy.

- Cold exposure may increase white blood cell count and activate your immune system.
- Promotes brown fat activation, which burns calories to generate heat.
Thermal Cycling Benefits
