I first started rock climbing in high school and really got into it in college.
There is so much to love about this sport!
First of all, it is a fun, full body workout. It increases my confidence and boosts my self-esteem. While the challenging aspect keeps me humble, which helps put everything into perspective.
Rock climbing has been a big part of my life for the last 16 years.
My Climbing Adventures
Climbing pursuits took me on adventures to places I never dreamed of going, like China, Malaysia, and Vietnam.
In fact, a backpacking and climbing exploration trip in Yangshuo, China changed the course of my life. I was “hired” (given free food and housing) to be a climbing guide and I helped to build an outdoor education company from the ground up with the most incredible people.
As a guide, I had the opportunity to take people of all ages and backgrounds out to climb. I was able to see first-hand how much joy and transformation comes from this one activity.
I also was able to keep pushing myself to climb harder. And I was able to face and overcome many of my fears.
Now 16 years later, I’m in the flattest place ever I’ve lived. Yet, Fargo has become home and one that I am proud to embrace. That said, I was incredibly stoked to find out that there are some fun walls to go rock climbing in Fargo and Moorhead!
Back at It
Last night I had some time to myself and decided it was time to get back on the wall. I booked my spot at a local climbing spot and arrived a little nervous. I hadn’t climbed since before I had my son, who is now two, so I had no idea how this was going to go.
My anxiety melted away and a childlike excitement rose as I shook off the mental cobwebs and got on the wall.
Everything I loved about climbing rushed back.
While I was getting ready to leave a couple of moms brought their kids in to climb, it made me so happy to see the kids having so much fun on the wall. The moms also enjoyed watching from the comfy couches and getting some chill time.
I’m really excited to have a places to go rock climbing in Fargo and Moorhead! For this adventurous soul, being able to climb makes Fargo feel even more like home.
