A few years ago, my husband decided to take my daughter to 50 different playgrounds in one summer. They accomplished that goal, and it was a good excuse to explore Fargo and surrounding areas.
Now that we have two playground-loving kids, we’re doing it once again!
To preface: I can take absolutely zero credit for this one. My husband is the one who executes this and I’m just along for the ride. Regardless — it is a great summer activity that’s completely free. It’s a fun way to spend time outside, check out different areas of town, and allow the kids to get out some energy.
You might want to give this a try with your family!
How does this work? Well, it’s pretty easy. You can make up whatever rules you want, but here’s how we do it.
50 Playground Goal: How to Achieve It
Find a Playground
This is pretty self-explanatory. You probably can check a few off the list just by scouting out the playgrounds in your neighborhood or elementary school. And if you need some inspiration, the Fargo Park District, West Fargo Park District, and Moorhead Parks all have lists on their websites.
And you don’t have to stick to just the Fargo-Moorhead area, we will look for playgrounds wherever we happen to be traveling. If you want to make a day trip out of it, Detroit Lakes has several great options!
Go to the Playground
Again, self-explanatory! To check a playground off the list, simply go to the playground, and play as long as the kids want. Our only rule is that one of us needs to take a picture of the kids at the playground. This way, when the project is done, we can make a photo book of all the different playgrounds we visited.
Make a List
This doesn’t need to be complicated. Any way you want to do this, just make sure you have the name of the playground and the date you visited. If you are the crafty type, you can make a beautiful list complete with pictures and other details. We just like to keep things simple. My husband has a notebook and he just keeps track of the list after each visit. This can be a fun keepsake to stick in a memory box to look at years from now.
Hitting the 50 playground goal has been a fun goal for our kids! The Fargo-Moorhead area has so many different playgrounds to check out. It’s worth your time to venture outside of your neighborhood, and potentially try hit this 50 playgrounds goal as well!
