No matter what time of year, the Headwaters to the Mississippi River is definitely a highlight of Itasca.

Some other popular attractions are the visitor center and museum, fire tower, and numerous hiking trails.

Naturalist programs also run year round, and there are several programs specifically geared toward kids and families. Check out the Itasca State Park events calendar to see all they have to offer!

Fall Activities

Itasca is a wonderful place to enjoy the beauty of fall. Take a hike on one of the many wooded trails, or enjoy a 10-mile wilderness drive to take in the views.

For those who enjoy an adventure, climb to the top of the fire tower to see the colorful leaves from above!

And fall is a great time to camp at Itasca — but be prepared for chilly nights and mornings.

Cross-country skiing and snowshoeing are very popular in the winter at Itasca.

There are also 31 miles of designated snowmobiling trails.

The four-season suites are available to rent in the winter, and some campsites are available year-round as well. And there is also a warming house at the visitor center.
