5 Wineries Near Fargo to Sample Wine

Did you know North Dakota has over a dozen wineries? Many of these are just a short distance from the Fargo area and offer some unique varieties.

Wineries make a great outing for a mini girls trip or in the summer, these vineyards have wide open spaces great for kids to run and use imaginative play.

A chance to have a glass of wine in peace? Sign me up!

Here’s a list of wineries near Fargo to spend a few hours in scenic bliss. Just make sure to have a designated driver!

Wineries Near Fargo

Bear Creek WineryBear Creek

Address: 8800 25th St S, Fargo

Hours: Mid-May to October, Wednesdays & Thursdays 4:30-9:00 p.m. and Saturdays 1:00 – 6:00 p.m.

Tasting Notes: Cold climate grape varieties of Petite Pearl, Crimson Pearl, Verona, Frontenac, Itasca, La Crescent, Frontenac Gris, and Marquette and many delicious dry options.

Food: Rhombus Guys pizza, cheese boards, and the first Thursday of the month they offer Milk Made food truck.

Vibes: Lots of little seating areas including a patio, deck, and picnic tables by Bear Creekthe pond. There’s a sandy beach with pond views and plenty of trees for shady coverage.

4e Winery

Address: 3766 156th Ave SE, Mapleton, ND

Hours: May – October, Thursdays & Fridays 4:00 – 8:00 p.m., Saturdays 11:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., Sundays 12:00 – 5:00 p.m.

Tasting Notes: They use both American and French oaks for aging and include a honeyberry wine.

Food: Full menu including vegan and vegetarian options.

Vibes: New pavilion, spacious decks, rustic three-season West Wing. First Thursday is live music and makers spotlights every Sunday.

Dakota Vines Vineyard and Winery

Address: 17355 County Rd 4, Coflax, ND

Hours: May – October, Thursdays & Fridays 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. Saturdays & Sundays 12:00 – 5:00 p.m.

Tasting Notes: Aside from grapes, they make wines from chokecherry, black current, rhubarb, and pear.

Food: Full menu offered.

Vibes: Enjoy a unique, rural experience for wine enthusiasts and those interested in learning more about wine and also winemaking. The Dakota Vines winery is located across the river from an existing farm folk school and event center. Check out their calendar for game nights and live music.

Rookery Rock Winery

Address: 3660 147th Ave SE, Wheatland, ND

Hours: June – September, Thursdays 3:00 – 8:00 p.m., Fridays & Sundays 2:00 – 7:00 p.m.

Tasting Notes: Featuring wines produced from fruit, berries, and cold hardy grapes grown in the orchard and vineyard onsite. Add warm flavors such as nutmeg and allspice as well as a hop infused wine for a unique flavor. With over 20 wines to choose from, you’re bound to find your favorite.

Food: Appetizers, wood fire pizza, and food trucks.

Vibes: Local merchandise vendors, small patio for casual al fresco eating.

Red Trail Vineyard

Address: 3510 142nd Ave SE, Buffalo, ND

Hours: May – November, Saturdays & Sundays 1:00 – 5:00 p.m.

Tasting Notes: Eight varieties of grapes and offer seven different grape wins grown on the estate. White sangria with strawberries, lemon, and limes.

Food: Dinners on Fridays with reservations.

Vibes: This family vineyard is one of the oldest and largest wineries in the state and located along the Buffalo River. Stay close to the vineyard at the nearby Red Trail Vineyard RV Park.
