5 Books to Help Boost Your Mental Wellness

As busy moms, it can be difficult to prioritize ourselves and our mental wellbeing. As mamas, we know we need to focus on these things, but sometimes it’s at the bottom of a very long to-do list.

We tend to be critical of ourselves but rarely prioritize taking action for our well-being.

One of the ways I’m choosing to prioritize myself is by making an effort to read books that are likely to inspire, motivate, and uplift!

I’m sharing five books from my reading list; books said to be packed with valuable insights and practical tips that should give any mom the tools to become a mentally healthier (and hopefully happier) version of themselves.

5 Books to Read for Mental Wellness

1. How are You, Really? Living Your Truth One Answer at a Time by Jenna Kutcher

In this book Jenna Kutcher pulls from her experiences as a small-town Minnesotan wife and mother who built a wildly successful business. She shares how she finds fulfillment and peace in motherhood, her career, and her marriage.

If you need more balance and fulfillment in your life, you won’t want to skip this read. This author has a knack for vulnerability and connection, while simultaneously offering value to her audience. Whether you’re a stay-at-home mom or a career-driven mom, you’ll find some wisdom to glean from this book.

2. Atomic Habits by James Clear

Atomic Habits is the first book I will check off my reading list this summer. I am the queen of visualizing the person I want to be and the habits I want to nix, but like many, I struggle to stay consistent. The author, James Clear, shares how tiny changes lead to remarkable results. He shares the science behind his methods, actionable tips, and proven stories that have changed the lives of many.

3. More than a Mom: Find Purpose in the Everyday Monotony Without Losing Yourself or Your Sanity by Ashley Carbonotto

Motherhood is all-encompassing. It’s not uncommon to hear a mom say she feels she has “lost herself” or is struggling to “find herself.” When I came across More than a Mom, I immediately felt validated in my own battle with relearning the newest version of myself. Ashley Carbonotto shares her ups and downs through postpartum, big life changes, and more. She does so in a humorous, relatable, and captivating way that leaves her readers feeling seen.

4. Declutter Like a Mother by Allie Casazza

How does a “guilt-free, no-stress way to transform your home and life” sound? The tagline for Declutter Like a Mother captured my attention immediately. Clutter seems to show up with minimal effort, but clearing it out feels like a challenge to many, myself included. But less physical clutter leads to less mental clutter.

If you struggle with clutter and letting go of things that are no longer serving you, you’ll want to snag a copy.

5. Confessions of a Domestic Failure by Bunmi Laditan

Raise your hand if you have ever felt like a domestic failure!

No? Just me?

I’m betting there are a few of you out there, and like me, you’re probably tired of Pinterest-perfect social media feeds. This book demonstrates the fact that there is no such thing as a “perfect mom,” a reminder many of us need in the hyper-curated world we parent in.

So, here are some good options for books to improve your mental wellness this summer.

And some of us might not get through our entire summer reading list, and that’s okay. Be proud of yourself for what you do achieve, and build on that.

Whether you are planning on reading heart-wrenching romance novels, adventurous fantasies, or self-improvement books, the important thing is that you take time for yourself and keep your cup full. That’s the ultimate goal when prioritizing your mental wellness.

Happy reading!
