Summer Date Ideas in Fargo & Moorhead

1. A Downtown Stroll @ Roberts Alley

This adorable little section of downtown is the perfect spot for a summer date! Grab some seafood on the patio of Beer and Fish, then check the beautiful murals, and for a sweet finish, Scoop N Dough Candy Co.

2. A Baseball Game @ Newman Outdoor Field

Nothing says summer quite like a baseball game! Our area’s own minor league team, the FM RedHawks, provide a great way to catch some competitive sports in a relaxing environment. You can even choose a daytime or nighttime date depending on their schedule.
*If watching sports is your thing, also check out race night at the Red River Valley Speedway in West Fargo.

3. A Secret Garden Date @ Northern Plains Botanic Garden

This beautiful gem is the perfect spot to transport you out of the city. Take a lovely daytime stroll through the butterfly garden, or relax on the hummingbird patio. If you’re hungry, it even has its own edible forest filled with a variety of fruits and nuts!

4. A Casual Hike @ Orchard Glen Park

To maximize your outdoor time, enjoy nature’s beauty on a hike through Orchard Glen Park. Along the banks of the Red River, this is a community orchard for all to appreciate and makes a great backdrop for photos. The summer harvest includes cherries and pears which are free to pick and enjoy.

5. Dinner and a Show @ Trollwood

Every July, the performing arts school puts on a fantastic musical on the Bluestem stage. The amphitheater alone is a gorgeous backdrop, but the entire crew (made up of mostly high school students) builds a set that makes the show come to life. It starts late enough to catch dinner beforehand, and make sure to bring bug spray and a jacket for when the sun sets!

6. Picnic in the Park @ Gooseberry Mound Park

Gooseberry Mound Park is the perfect spot for a romantic picnic. First, stop at Luna and grab your preordered cheeseboard to go, then hit up Bernie’s for a bottle to pair with your snacks. Drive a few blocks to Lindenwood to park, then head across the river by foot on the walking bridge into Moorhead.

7. Bike Ride @ Lindenwood Park

Lindenwood Park provides a scenic backdrop for a lovely ride. Bring your own bikes or get rentals for 30 or 60 minutes (and includes a helmet). Choose from single bikes, or double if you dare! Enjoy the beauty of the wooded paths along the Red River of the North. Another option is to rent a surrey or kayak to explore the river.

8. Game Night @ Thunder Road

For a little friendly competition (and to get your engines revved, wink wink), head over to Thunder Road, “where the action never stops!” They have mini golf, go karts, bumper cars, and batting cages.
*For more competitive ideas, check out any of the local golf courses or frisbee golf options.

9. Vinyard Escape @ Bear Creek Winery

Not only does this family run winery boast award-winning North Dakota wines, but it’s also a gorgeous setting for a date. Bear Creek Winery specializes in dry blends (both red and white) using cold climate hardy grapes that can survive our harsh Northern winters.

10. A Very Fargo Date @ Fargo Brewing Company & 701 Eateries

The Fargo Brewing Company has been specializing in craft beer since 2010 and has just opened a newly renovated space. Try some of their classic, seasonal, and limited release beers then head across the street to the awesome Camp Lone Tree deck for a fun take on causal Midwest fair and refreshing cocktails.
*Check out the Moorhead version with Junkyard Brewery and Sol Ave Kitchen.

Katina grew up in the suburbs of Philadelphia and played field hockey at the University of Connecticut, and has never been in as good of shape since. She met her husband, Justin, at a bar in Pittsburgh and, despite many romantic Skype dates, found a long-distance relationship to be a drag and moved to Fargo in 2010. She's a bonus mom to Justin's son, Owen (2005), and they have twins Augie and Delphi (2016) and two Great Danes, Rainy and Moose. She's a Speech-Language Pathologist & Certified Brain Injury Specialist who enjoys helping her patients improve their quality of life. She is also a Certified Sculpt Instructor at Mojo Fit Studios. Katina loves showing the world to her kids (but also seeing the world through their eyes), trying new foods, listening to live music and publicly mocking her little brother on Instagram. On most weekends, you can find her at one of her kids' many activities by day, and by night on the couch in sweats, eating a homemade charcuterie board and drinking cheap wine she bought at Costco. She still has Skype dates, but now they're with friends and family who live all over the place.
