Self-care can be such a buzz word. However, as a mom, I believe self-care is a necessity.

I’m sure every mom has felt some degree of guilt about taking time for herself. And it seems like most moms are really good at prioritizing everyone else in the family before themselves.

We wait until we are close to burn out or ultra stressed before we are even willing to do something for ourselves.

I totally understand — I do the same thing. However, I find that when I’m mindful and intentional about finding simple ways to add self-care into my weeks, my mood is more balanced.

Yes, a girls trip away or a vacation with your partner be awesome. But that’s not always realistic for moms.

Here are some ways to incorporate self-care into your daily routines.

Self-Care for Moms

Self-care doesn’t have to be something super time consuming, you don’t even need to leave your house! Sometimes just the act of being mindful in putting your needs first can make all the difference.

Finding small ways to take care of yourself each week may help you avoid burn out and help you feel like a better mom, wife, and an overall happier person.

3 Ways to Practice Self-Care

1. Movement

This one really helps my mindset! And working out doesn’t have to be time consuming or expensive.

Find something you enjoy then make an effort to take 20-30 minutes per day to do that. Take a walk outside (with or without your children), stretch, do yoga, take a class, or find a YouTube exercise video to follow.

Movement increases your endorphins, which makes you feel better and less stressed!

Finding time for exercise can be a challenge. I personally try to get this done first thing in the morning. Or sometimes I’ll take a walk at lunch, or make it family time and bring the kids.

2. A Skin Care Routine

For me it’s as simple as washing my face or using a face mask. I know there are much fancier skin care routines out there, which you can absolutely do. I personally find I don’t always have time. So, I keep this one simple, but it does make me feel better about myself when I’m consistent.

Another form of skin care can be taking a magnesium/Epsom salt bath to help with muscle tension and relaxation. Try doing a bath along with a face mask. Hopefully, you can find 15-20 minutes of time during the week to do this. You can even add a fancy lotion, body oil, bath salts, or bath bombs!

Other forms indulgences under this category would be painting your nails, getting your nails done, or even a massage.

3. Mind/Brain Challenge

This one has so many possibilities depending on what you enjoy. Read a book for fun, pick up a new hobby, listen to your favorite podcast (pro tip: listen while walking or driving), do a puzzle, crossword, or any other brain teaser.

Consuming information outside social media scrolling can help you challenge yourself, expand your horizons, and find new interests.

Every mom has different priorities, time constraints, and interests. And you likely can’t do all of these every day, or even every week. But finding simple, mindful, and intentional ideas to add is the easiest way to start.

And you might be surprised at all the ways you can incorporate self-care into your daily life.
