School’s out, and the kids are craving time outside so they can run wild and burn some energy.

Spending time outdoors is a priority during summer break, and one of our favorite ways to enjoy the sunshine is by visiting the many local parks.

Looking for a great outdoor space to entertain the whole family? Then consider spending a day at West Fargo’s Dakota Park!

Dakota Park

Dakota Park is one of our top places to visit when the kids are looking for outdoor fun.

Whether you’re exploring the recreational trails, climbing the exciting play structures, or catching a game of pickleball — there’s plenty to engage the whole family at Dakota Park!

Playground

The cheerful playground at Dakota Park provides multiple opportunities for climbing, jumping, and sliding.

There are two separate play structures at the park — one designed for younger children and the other for big kids.

The playground for younger children features several slides, climbing structures and ropes, a whimsical playhouse, and a hollowed log to climb through.

One of the highlights of this playground was the roller slide, or as my kids call it, the “bumpy slide.”

Watching them giggle and jiggle down the cylindrical rollers always puts a smile on my face.

The big kid playground has similar features with numerous slides and climbing structures.

However, this playground just may have the highest climbing structures and longest slides I’ve seen at any local park!

The playground is also home to numerous swings, merry-go-rounds, and musical features.

Water fountains and bathrooms are conveniently located at the nearby shelter as well as several picnic tables.

I think my kids could have spent the entire day here!

Recreational Sports

In the summer months, head over to Dakota Park and play a game of pickleball on the courts! The five courts are available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Then when winter arrives, grab your skates! In early December, the courts are flooded so you can skate or play hockey. Dakota Park also provides a warming house to keep you cozy in between skating sessions.

Special Events

During the summer, keep your eyes open for special activities taking place at Dakota Park.

West Fargo Park District regularly hosts Rec On the Go events which bring a DJ, yard games, and hot dog meal deals to each of the parks.

Dakota Park offers something for everyone, whether you’re looking for a place to play, planning a picnic, or simply getting in touch with nature.

The playgrounds, sports courts, and scenic views all contribute to Dakota Park’s unique charm making this park a must-visit on your next family outing.
