Rustad Recreation Center
Location: 601 26th Ave E, West Fargo
During the winter months, it gets harder and harder to think of ideas to keep kids entertained. Thankfully, Fargo has no shortage of indoor play spaces for kids of all ages.
One of our favorites is the Rustad Recreation Center.
What to do at the Rustad:
Rustad Rec Center is located in West Fargo (near Costco!) and is a multi-sport facility owned by the West Fargo Park District.
There is a walking track, basketball and pickleball courts, as well as a sports turf. It’s biggest attraction for young kids, however, is an indoor playground.
The indoor playground is exactly what it sounds like — a large area with play equipment and a softer floor.
Indoor Playground & Walking Track
My kids have spent hours at this playground. It has a smaller area for toddlers alongside the bigger play area, and a fun musical instrument area.
It’s a great place to meet up with a few mom friends for a play date, as there’s something for pretty much any child.
If your child isn’t old enough to use the playground but you need to get out of the house (we’ve all been there), the walking path is a great option! You can bring your stroller and walk laps with your child, or wear your child in a carrier. The walking path is for free public use during all building hours!
Youth Activities
Rustad is home to many activities through the West Fargo Park District. A few that my kids have done that I can personally vouch for are T-ball, Basketball for Beginners, and Sports Sampler. It is so nice to be able to do indoor sports during the winter months — especially when you can’t trust North Dakota weather.
If your child isn’t into athletics, there’s an option for them as well! Rustad has an art studio which offers classes for kids of all ages.
Birthday Parties
If you were to ask my kids what their favorite part of Rustad is, they would hands down say birthday parties. We have hosted and attended many birthday parties at Rustad! You can rent out the playground, or schedule a party on the turf with their inflatable bounce houses and slides. Their party packages are for a two-hour period of time.
The packages include a private party room, and exclusive use of the inflatables. You can bring in any decorations as well as food and non-alcoholic beverages. Each party room has a TV and a private bathroom. I have truly found that this is one of the easiest places to host a party, and you will have a crew of exhausted kids at the end!
Good to know:
Admission is $5 per active user, and children under two are free! Punch cards are available for $40 for 10 visits. According to their website, scholarships may be available to those who qualify for assistance.
Socks and/or shoes must be worn at all times, and Rustad does have socks available for purchase. The walking track overlooks the playground, however unless your child is over 10 years of age, you can’t walk around the track while they play independently.
Next time you are looking to get out of the house during these cold winter months, give Rustad Rec Center a try!
