Looking for a scenic park to enjoy the outdoors with your loved ones? Then look no further than Rabanus Park!

Rabanus Park is home to play structures, basketball and sand volleyball courts, grills, picnic tables, a community garden and orchard, and several shelters.

But what makes this park truly unique is the World Garden Commons developed by the Fargo Project. This installation transformed a neighborhood storm water basin into a beautiful green space for the community to enjoy.

Whether you’re wandering the paths of the recreational trails, playing team sports, or hosting a gathering — there’s plenty to explore at Rabanus Park!

Playgrounds

A good playground is essential for a family park outing, and the play structures at Rabanus Park were a hit with my little ones!

Rabanus Park has two play areas — one designed for children two to five years old and the other for children five to 12.

Both structures have numerous slides and climbing structures as well as talk tubes, spinner chairs, and a climbing wall. There are also several great features for imaginative play like the chimes and outer space play panels.

The swing set has traditional seats for babies and older children, an adaptive seat, and even a friendship swing! My kids could have lounged in that friendship swing all day.

But my kids’ favorite feature of the playground was without a doubt the zip line!

Community Garden and Orchard

Right next to the playground is a community garden and orchard. The community garden is unique in that the members all work together to share the tending, rather than focus on one individual plot. Anyone can join one of the local community gardens and share in the harvest!

It’s very cool to watch how the garden changes and grows throughout the season, and it’s a great learning opportunity for children. The members do amazing work!

Rabanus ParkWorld Garden Commons

Just past the playground and garden, you will find the World Garden Commons — an ecologically self-sustaining park that also functions as a storm water basin.

The award-winning design includes a listening garden, a natural play area, and an overlook and amphitheater for community performances and gatherings.

The meditative pathways throughout the space wind through a prairie landscape. Many of the native plants were specifically chosen for their cultural significance by indigenous community members.

It’s truly a beautiful and serene escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. And you can learn more about this area and its design at The Fargo Project!

Gatherings

If you’re planning a gathering, Rabanus Park has a shelter right next to the playground available for rentals. The shelter accommodates 25 guests inside and 25 guests outside. Electricity and running water are available in the shelter as well as restrooms. There are also plenty of grills and picnic tables outside to cook for a crowd!

Rentals are available from May 1st to October 1st.

Recreational Sports

Rabanus Park is also home to basketball and volleyball courts. The basketball court is located right next to the playground and has four basketball hoops. There are also several grills and picnic tables along the court if you want to make a day of play!

The Rabanus Sand Volleyball Complex is home to eight courts with super-soft mason sand. There is also a handy washing station for easy clean up. Picnic tables and shelters are located along the complex and are available to visitors on a first-come, first-served basis.

There are so many fun possibilities at Rabanus Park! Whether you’re exploring the World Garden Commons, running wild on the playground, or shooting hoops at the basketball courts — a day at Rabanus Park is a great way for the family to be active and get in touch with nature.
