Plains Art Museum
Location: 704 1st Ave N, Fargo
Located in Downtown Fargo, this spacious museum features regional Native American, contemporary, and folk art.

Explore the kids playroom where kids can read, play, and create.
They offer a variety of youth classes, at the Katherine Kilburne Burgum Center for Creativity. These classes cater to a range of ages using different media. They also offer monthly family programs such as Kid Quest (one Saturday a month) and Toddler Tuesdays. Find a list of upcoming classes and events here.

Why we love the Plains Art Museum:
First of all, it’s free! But they also have the option for guided tours for a more in-depth look at the museum. See their website for reservations and additional information.
And usually pretty quiet, at least on weekdays.
The kids playroom is great for younger kids. It has many books, interactive toys, and art supplies promoting creative and imaginative play.
Also, the Plains Art Museum location, being downtown, is close to lots of fun stores, restaurants, and coffee shops. It makes a great stop to a day exploring downtown Fargo!
They provide a welcoming environment to all with Low-Sensory Sundays. The first Sunday of every month from 11:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. they provide a quiet, less sensory-stimulating environment. Gallery sounds are kept to a minimum, lights are turned down, and attendance is limited.
Good to know:
No food and drinks in the gallery spaces.
Also, photography is not allowed in the galleries.
Sketching is permitted using graphite or colored pencils. However, charcoal, pens, and paints are not allowed (to protect the artwork).
Parking is free in their parking lot located on the south and west sides of the Museum. There is also some street parking available.
