Bioblitz!

June 22 @ 9:00 am - 11:00 am

Become a citizen scientist at a Bioblitz! What is a Bioblitz? It’s a fun, intensive, short search and information gathering session, looking for biodiversity in a specific location. Children, teens and adults are invited to attend and help in the search at Oak Grove Park on Saturday, June 22 from 9-11 a.m. Different species of birds, plants, insects, mammals and more will be documented on smart phones and digital cameras using the Seek (kid-safe) and iNaturalist (ages 13 and older) app. If you have a smart phone, install the Seek or iNaturalist app to record and share your findings. Photo observations are instantly uploaded into the global data base and used by real conservationists and researchers. Paper forms will also be available for keeping track. We’ll be joined by graduate students/researchers from NDSU’s School of Natural Resource Sciences, staff from the City of Fargo Forestry Dept., United Prairie, and NDSU’s Plant Sciences, and other experts on the creatures and plants found in our area. Together, let’s discover the natural world in our own backyard! (Children ages 10 and younger must be accompanied by an adult.)
This event is part of the “Adventure Begins at Your Library” Summer Reading Challenge sponsored, in part, by the Friends of the Fargo Public Library.
