As a household of two working parents and two busy girls, mornings can be a struggle.

So I have been determined to find ways to make the mornings more enjoyable and productive for all of us — to start the day off on a positive note.

Looking for guidance, I talked to many moms who have kids older than mine who were kind enough to share their tips.

These are the ones that we find to be tried and true. Hopefully this list will provide some inspiration for how to streamline your morning routine.

4 Ways to Make Your Morning Routine Smoother

1. Get up early to work out.

When I get to start the day pouring into myself and filling my cup, I feel so much better tackling the morning routine. I have found that if I put off my time until the evening, it NEVER gets done.

Morning workouts have been a staple for me for years and it’s now something I look forward to, even when my alarm goes off. Since I work outside the home, when I’m finished with my workout I shower and get ready for the day, before getting our girls up.

2. Pick out clothes for the week on Sundays.

Over the weekend as I wrap up laundry, I will pick out outfits with the girls for the week. We use a five-tiered cubby that hangs in their closet.

With their clothes already picked out, they know to hop out of bed, use the bathroom, and get dressed. This week it was extra helpful with special outfits for spirit week. We have everything together, instead of rushing and searching for items in the morning.

I will also get our sports bags together for the week. Any jerseys, shoes, leotards, and snacks go into the bag, then it’s hung up and ready to go.

3. Organize your snack bin.

Our girls bring snacks to school each day. When I get groceries, we will go through what snacks they would like for the week. I unpack them, and then sort them in our snack bin.

I organize them so they are easy to see and choices can be quick. Then we work to get snacks in the backpack the evening before.

4. Go through the lunch schedule the Friday before.

On Fridays after school, the girls and I sit down and go over the lunch schedule for the following week. That way when I grocery shop, I know beforehand if I need to plan for a cold lunch.

Last year I was not as prepared, and putting school lunches together was stressful and overwhelming. Now I know what days they will bring home lunch and we have a plan for what they will be packing.

I hope these tips work for you, or at least spark some ideas on how to streamline your family’s morning routine.

Morning routines set the tone for the day, and starting it off on high note benefits everyone in your house.
