Winter Magic at Mary’s Tunnel in Moorhead

Note: As of 2023, Mary’s Tunnel will not be set up any longer.

Mary’s Tunnel in Moorhead is adding a little sparkle to cold winter nights. Located just behind the Hjemkomst Center in Viking Park, 50,000 small lights illuminate the tunnel in the form of a 60-foot canopy.

The tunnel is a part of the annual Frostival celebration. Created by Moorhead City Manager Dan Mahli and named in honor Mary Anderson Schmitt, a long-time employee of the City of Moorhead. Mary passed away unexpectedly in November 2020.

The twinkle of the lights and the snowy scenery makes it a beautiful setting for a wintry photo op.

Lit from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 a.m. each day, Mary’s Tunnel provides a bit of light and cheer for visitors.

Check out this magical setup and celebrate the winter season with Frostival events that take place across the Fargo-Moorhead community from January 14th through February 25th!
