We wanted to share all the great things our local libraries in Fargo, West Fargo, & Moorhead do for our community, as well as the virtual offerings they have.
So make sure to check them out online, follow them on social media, and support all they do for our families!

Fargo Public Library

The Fargo Public Library has three locations and has a variety of events geared toward babies, toddlers, school-age children, and teens. Each location has computers with public access to the Internet, Wi-Fi access, and meeting spaces to work, study, or quietly socialize.

Main Library: 101 4th Street North

Located in downtown Fargo, this large library has a designated kids section on the first floor (and includes the Wiggle Room play area for littles!).

The second floor holds adult books and public access computers. It also has little nooks to work or read.

Dr. James Carlson Library: 2801 32nd Ave S

The Carlson Library is a smaller, more intimate space with large south-facing windows. The adult, children, and teen sections are all in one large area. Kids will love perusing the books and picking out new favorites.

Northport Library: 2714 North Broadway

This branch of the Fargo Public Library is situated in North Fargo. It is a small library with a reading area in the front and the children’s section in the back with computers and activities for kids.

Story Time Events

Baby Rhyme Time: Songs, stories, rhythms, and rhymes introduce babies and parents/caregivers to books and the library. This session is for babies 18 months and younger and each session ends with an open play time.

Toddler and Preschool Storytimes: These storytimes help foster early literary skills through the use of stories, songs, and activities. Both of my sons have been involved in storytime sessions and greatly enjoyed them. Currently storytimes are offered on the FPL website (Note: most occur during the school year from September-May).

The 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten: This program emphasizes the benefits of reading to young children. The idea is to read books to your child, with the goal of reading 1,000 books total before they begin Kindergarten. A tracking log can be picked up at any Fargo Public Library location to begin.

Other Ongoing Events

Teens: The FPL has a Teen Volunteer Program and also a variety of teen events throughout the year. Registration is required. Check their website for more information on registration and upcoming events.

Summer Reading Program: Beginning in June, this program encourages kids to read in the summer months.

The Library also hosts a number of other children and family events, including book club offerings and programs for adults. See their calendar to see all they have to offer in the coming months!

The 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten: This program is a fun and simple way for parents to ensure their child has the literacy skills they need to read and also succeed by the time they head off to Kindergarten.

Moorhead Public Library

Location: 118 5th St S, Moorhead, MN

This library is a Lake Agassiz Regional Library (LARL) and has a lot to offer in a small amount of space. There is a large Children’s section, and they are working on a building project for a new library space.
