5 Fun Summer Activities for Kids {Video Included!}

We’re officially half-way through summer, but it’s never too late to add some new fun summer activities to your list!

We’ve got a list of 5 fun summer activities the kids will love, and local mom and YouTuber Morgan Bylund has put it all together in a video to show us how they’re done. Check it out to see each activity in action and check out her fun tips!

Frozen Block Activity

This summer activity is great for littles, but kids of any age can have fun, too. Simply take some small figures (find any you have around the house, or these little dinosaurs are great), place them in a tupperware, fill with water, and freeze! (Pro-Tip: Use the deep-freeze if you have one; they will freeze faster!)

If you need a tool to chisel and hammer away the ice, check out this one from Amazon and this one from Wal-Mart (our favorite!), or any non-sharp kitchen utensils can work.

Family Hike

Want to get out of town but just looking for day-trip options? There are plenty of spots around the Fargo-Moorhead area where you can go on a family hike. Each place has easy-to-moderate trails, so it should be easy to find something that fits your family!

Terrarium Craft

Terrariums are whimsical and such a fun summer activity for kids! You can find entire kits on Amazon, or DIY your own by finding the supplies you need. In the end, you’ll have a fun project the kids can enjoy for a long time.

DIY Photo Shoot (see video for editing tips!)

With so many great murals around the Fargo-Moorhead area, you’ll be sure to find some fun ones to grab a family photo or two. Our favorites are the wings near Silver Linings Creamery and the Super Mario Wall in the Alley behind the Pickled Parrot.

Movie Night / DIY Drive-In Movie

With social-distancing still the norm and movie theaters closed, what better way to watch the latest flicks than right in your backyard! Morgan uses this equipment for her outdoor movies, or you can check out this equipment with a screen included to set up a backyard movie scene. Add in some popcorn, candy, and soda and it’s just like the real thing!

There’s still plenty of summer left to have some fun with these kid-friendly summer activities. Enjoy!
